Studying abroad is a door that opens up many opportunities for learning, experiencing, and career development in an international environment. However, besides preparing academic records, foreign language skills, or applying for a visa, proving financial capacity is always one of the steps that makes many parents and students worried. So, is proving financial capacity for studying abroad really difficult?

Proving financial capacity is the process where the international student or the sponsor proves to the school and the visa approval authority that the family has enough financial ability to cover tuition fees, living expenses, and arising costs throughout the study period abroad. This is the basis for countries to assess that international students come to study with legitimate purposes, limiting situations of dropping out or working illegally due to a lack of economic conditions.

Each country will have different requirements for financial documents. Normally, applicants need to prepare a savings passbook, a bank balance confirmation, and documents proving the sponsor's income such as an employment contract, payroll, business license, bank statements, or documents related to assets. Some countries also require the deposit to be maintained for a certain period before the application is submitted.

Regarding the financial amount to be proven, the figure will vary depending on the country and the study program. For example:

·        South Korea usually requires a savings passbook of about 10,000 - 20,000 USD.

·        Japan about 2 - 3 million yen.

·        Taiwan about 100,000 - 200,000 NTD.

·        China requires proving enough tuition and living expenses, usually from 50,000 - 100,000 RMB.

·        Meanwhile, countries with higher costs like the US and Australia will require proving sufficient financial resources corresponding to the tuition and living expenses of at least the first academic year, which can range from 30,000 - 70,000 USD or higher depending on the school and region.

In reality, proving financial capacity is not too difficult if the family prepares early. The important thing is that the documents must be transparent, and the income source must be legal and consistent with the amount of money owned. Conversely, forging documents or providing dishonest financial proof can cause the visa application to be rejected, affecting the study abroad plan.

It can be seen that proving financial capacity is not only a mandatory procedure but also demonstrates the family's readiness to accompany their child on the learning journey abroad. Therefore, instead of worrying too much, students and parents should carefully research the requirements of each country, prepare a financial plan early, and seek help from a reputable consulting agency when needed. When the documents are completely prepared and in accordance with regulations, proving financial capacity will become much simpler, contributing to a higher visa approval rate and helping the study abroad journey go smoothly.
