After the Rain Comes a Rainbow
There are days when life feels like a prolonged rain. The sky is gray, and heavy raindrops fall, making everything seem gloomy. People are the same; everyone will eventually face failure, hurt, and periods of time that seem impossible to overcome. However, nature always has a way of reminding us of a truly beautiful thing: “after the rain comes a rainbow.”
Scientifically, a rainbow is an optical phenomenon that appears when sunlight passes through water droplets remaining in the air after it rains. White light is refracted, reflected, and dispersed into various colors, creating a brilliant band of colors consisting of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet across the sky. A rainbow does not appear during the fiercest thunderstorm; it only emerges when the dark clouds begin to dissipate and the sunlight returns.
Literally, a rainbow is one of the most beautiful sights bestowed by nature. After moments when the sky is completely covered by dark clouds, the appearance of a rainbow is like an unexpected gift, making our hearts feel lighter and more joyful. While we might feel quite annoyed by the dampness of the rain, the rainbow itself helps soothe that gloomy mood. It is proof that beautiful things always exist; sometimes, we just need to patiently wait.
But perhaps the deepest meaning of a rainbow lies in its figurative sense. In life, every failure is a rain, and every stumble is a dark cloud obscuring our own sky. There are times when we try very hard, but the results are not as expected. There are times when we are misunderstood, rejected, or forced to face seemingly insurmountable difficulties. Yet, just as a rainbow cannot appear without rain, success and growth usually only come after challenges.
Our ancestors have long summarized this through the saying: “After the rain, the sky brightens again”. That is not only a law of nature but also a law of life. After every rain, the clouds will part, making way for the sunlight. After every failure, if we do not give up, we will learn something that makes us stronger. The difficult days will eventually pass, just as every rain will eventually stop.
Therefore, when life does not go as desired, do not be quick to lose heart. Give yourself another chance to try, another time to stand back up after falling. You may still be in the middle of the rain today, but as long as you keep walking, the sunlight will appear. And when you look back at the journey you have traveled, you will realize that those very stormy days created the most brilliant “rainbow” in your life.
