In a landmark diplomatic move on Friday (Dec 26), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially announced that he has agreed to participate in a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in the near future. This declaration sparks hope for a breakthrough in the prolonged conflict in Eastern Europe right on the threshold of the New Year 2026.

Through a post on his official Telegram channel, the Ukrainian leader stated this decision was made immediately after receiving a detailed report from Defense Minister Rustem Umerov regarding high-level contacts with the American side.
“We are not wasting even a single day,” Zelenskyy emphasized. “We have agreed to meet at the highest level, with President Trump, as soon as possible. Many important issues can be decided and resolved definitively before the New Year arrives.”
Zelenskyy’s statement was not a coincidence but the result of a flurry of diplomatic activities during Christmas week. According to sources, the United States quietly hosted a crucial round of negotiations on December 22 and 23 in Miami. This meeting reportedly involved representatives from both Moscow and Kiev to discuss a “peace scenario.”
Notably, the U.S. delegation at these discussions was led by Special Envoy Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law, indicating the White House’s special attention to this process.
Simultaneously, the Kremlin also confirmed that Russian and U.S. officials had conducted telephone discussions regarding the Ukraine issue. The alignment in messaging from all three sides, Washington, Kiev, and Moscow, indicates a serious international effort is underway to reshape the regional security landscape before entering 2026.
